Performance Mode
Fortnitemares’ new “performance” rendering mode streamlines the graphics settings to target higher framerates. If you’re struggling to get your old PC to run Fortnite at 60fps, the boost in framerate will make it much more enjoyable to play.

If you see something like “NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB GDDR5X PCI Express 3.0 x16 Video Card” then you have an NVIDIA graphics card.
If you see something similar to “AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB HBM2 PCI Express 4.0 x8/x8 Graphic Controller” then you have an AMD graphics card.
Once you know what kind of graphics card you have, you can go ahead and download the appropriate driver.
Click on Display Adapters, expand the Display adapters section, and you should see your graphics card listed under Graphics Adapter.
If not, right-click on the adapter name and choose Properties. Once inside the properties window, click on the Driver tab and scroll down until you see the latest version of the driver installed.
You can also download the latest driver directly from Nvidia or AMD. You should always check your drivers before updating them.
If you see an error message when trying to install a new driver, then you need to uninstall the old version first. Then, go back to the manufacturer’s website and download the latest driver for your device.
Once downloaded, double-click on the file and follow the instructions. You may also need to restart your computer after installing the driver.
Check Your Network
If you’re playing online games, then you need a strong internet connection. You should also check if there are any other devices connected to your routers, like a TV or an air conditioner.
These may cause interference with your Wi-Fi signal. Try moving your router away from them. Also, if you’re using a wireless adapter, make sure it’s not blocking signals from reaching your router.
If you’re using Wi-Fi, it may be worth investing in a wired Ethernet adapter. It will give your game a huge boost in terms of stability and speed, so you should definitely consider getting one.
Upgrade Your Hardware-How To Make Fortnite Run Better On Laptop!
If you’ve tried all other options and your PC still isn’t running Fortnite up to your desired standard, upgrading the individual components in your PC will help.
You can either upgrade each component individually, which is a bit difficult at this time, due to the global graphics card shortage, or buy a whole new PC or gaming laptop.
If you’re looking for a cheap gaming rig, or just need a cheap gaming laptop, then you’ll probably want to stick to something like an Intel Core i3 processor or AMD Ryzen 5 CPU.
If you’re willing to spend a bit more money, though, there are plenty of options out there. You could go all the way up to an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card if you really wanted to.
Or you could opt for a Radeon RX 580 instead. There are also plenty of other options available at various price points.

What To Expect?
Below are two examples of the typical FPS scores seen by laptops running with an existing low scalability mode on standard Squad matches, compared to the same matches running in Performance mode using 1080p during both runs.

Note: If your game does not run correctly after enabling Performance Mode then you may need to update your graphics drivers.
If there is an available driver update then you will see a message at the bottom of the screen. Clicking “Install” will download and install the latest version of your graphics card driver.
If you still cannot play your game then please contact our Support team via Discord or Steam. Uncheck the read-only box and then hit apply.
Open the file and you should see an option called “DirectX11” under the Video tab. Change it to “Yes”. If you still cannot play, try changing back to “No” and then back to “Yes”.
